La Jolla walls, ceilings and doors
A lot of La Jolla predates drywall. The Village, Windansea, and much of Bird Rock are 1920s through 1950s construction with lath and plaster — sometimes over a wire mesh that makes stud finders read solid everywhere. Plaster also chips outward when you drill it wrong, and the repair is visible. I pre-drill, I use a bit meant for plaster, and I work slower than I would in Clairemont. It's built into the same flat price.
The Muirlands and Country Club areas run larger and newer, with more mid-century and later construction and plenty of vaulted and beamed ceilings. La Jolla Shores mixes older cottages with rebuilt modern homes. Anything within a few blocks of the water gets salt air, which matters for exterior mounts — stainless fasteners rather than zinc, or you'll see rust bleeding down the stucco inside two years.
Getting to you
Streets in Bird Rock and above the Village are narrow and steep with limited parking, and a few of the coastal condo buildings require a certificate of insurance from anyone working on site before they'll let you up. Ask your building what they need and I'll tell you honestly whether I can meet it.

Booking in La Jolla
How does the price work?
Text me a photo of the spot and I'll text back a flat price for the whole job. That number doesn't move unless the job turns out to be something other than what's in the photo — and if it does, I'll tell you before I start, not after.
When do I pay?
When it's done and you've looked at it. No deposit, no card on file, no payment up front.
How soon can you come out?
Usually this week, often the next day. You'll get a real arrival time — an actual hour, not a four-hour window.
Do you supply the equipment?
No. You buy the TV mount, the doorbell, the fan — whatever it is — and I install it. That keeps my price flat, means you own the parts, and means you're not paying a markup on something you can get delivered tomorrow. If you're unsure what to buy, text me and I'll tell you what fits.
Is it really just one person?
Yes. The person who quotes the job is the person who shows up and does it. You won't get a dispatcher, a rotating crew, or somebody who's never seen the photo you sent.
What can't you do?
Anything that needs a building permit — new circuits, new outlets, panel work, repiping, water heater or HVAC changeouts, gas lines, structural changes. Also anything where the total cost of the job would run to $1,000 or more. Those need a licensed contractor, and I'd rather refer you to one than take on something I shouldn't.

Further up in the Muirlands and Country Club the homes run newer and larger, with mid-century framing and a lot of vaulted and beamed ceilings. In those rooms placement becomes a genuine design question rather than a technical one, because the wall you want is often the one with the view on it. Coastal condo buildings near the Shores sometimes want paperwork from anyone working on site — check with your building before booking.
