Carlsbad walls, ceilings and doors
Bressi Ranch, Aviara, and most of La Costa were built from the late 1980s onward, with a lot of it 2000s. Conventional drywall, predictable framing, and interior walls that take a mount without drama. Many of these homes have structured wiring panels already in a closet, which makes mesh WiFi placement much easier — there's often an existing ethernet drop I can put a node on instead of relying on a wireless backhaul.
Carlsbad Village and the streets west of the 5 are considerably older, with 1930s through 1950s cottages mixed among rebuilds. Those get plaster walls and salt air, same as the coastal parts of La Jolla, and exterior camera and doorbell mounts there want stainless hardware.
Getting to you
Carlsbad HOAs are among the most specific in the county about exterior modifications, and a few require architectural review for anything visible from the street. Cameras under an eave are usually fine; a camera on a front wall sometimes isn't. Check first — it costs you nothing and saves a second trip.

Booking in Carlsbad
How does the price work?
Text me a photo of the spot and I'll text back a flat price for the whole job. That number doesn't move unless the job turns out to be something other than what's in the photo — and if it does, I'll tell you before I start, not after.
When do I pay?
When it's done and you've looked at it. No deposit, no card on file, no payment up front.
How soon can you come out?
Usually this week, often the next day. You'll get a real arrival time — an actual hour, not a four-hour window.
Do you supply the equipment?
No. You buy the TV mount, the doorbell, the fan — whatever it is — and I install it. That keeps my price flat, means you own the parts, and means you're not paying a markup on something you can get delivered tomorrow. If you're unsure what to buy, text me and I'll tell you what fits.
Is it really just one person?
Yes. The person who quotes the job is the person who shows up and does it. You won't get a dispatcher, a rotating crew, or somebody who's never seen the photo you sent.
What can't you do?
Anything that needs a building permit — new circuits, new outlets, panel work, repiping, water heater or HVAC changeouts, gas lines, structural changes. Also anything where the total cost of the job would run to $1,000 or more. Those need a licensed contractor, and I'd rather refer you to one than take on something I shouldn't.

Carlsbad is North County, so I batch work up here into a single day rather than driving up for one job. Booking goes much more smoothly if you can offer two or three time options rather than one fixed slot. The housing runs from older beach cottages near the village through the big La Costa and Aviara plans, which is a wide spread of construction to cover in one city.
The genuinely useful local thing: many La Costa and Aviara homes were built with a structured wiring panel in a hall closet, and most owners have never opened it. If there is already conduit running to the wall you want, cable concealment gets far tidier and cheaper than a surface channel.
