What's different about Garbage Disposal here
In the older Village and Windansea homes, the cabinet under the sink is often smaller than a modern one and the plumbing has been adapted rather than replaced. That's usually fine for a like-for-like swap, but it does mean unit size matters — send me a photo of what's under there now, including the trap and the dishwasher connection, and I'll tell you what will actually fit before you buy something too tall for the space.
Many La Jolla kitchens have been remodelled with heavy stone counters and undermount sinks, and that changes things: the mounting assembly attaches to the sink flange, and with an undermount sink there's less tolerance for error and no option to simply lift the sink. It's still a straight replacement, just one that wants care rather than force. If your remodel included a deep composite or fireclay sink, the available height under it shrinks again — another reason the photo is worth sending.
Before you book, from La Jolla
Photograph the cabinet interior including the trap and the dishwasher connection, and measure the vertical space from the underside of the sink to the cabinet floor. That measurement is the one that matters, and in La Jolla it varies enormously — a deep remodelled undermount sink with a stone counter leaves considerably less room than a standard drop-in. Getting to you
Streets in Bird Rock and above the Village are narrow and steep with limited parking, and a few of the coastal condo buildings require a certificate of insurance from anyone working on site before they'll let you up. Ask your building what they need and I'll tell you honestly whether I can meet it.

Is this plumbing work?
It's a fixture replacement on the existing drain connection and existing outlet. No new plumbing runs, no repiping, no permit. If your under-sink plumbing turns out to need actual repair, I'll show you what I'm looking at and refer you to a plumber.
What if there's no outlet under my sink?
Then it's hardwired, and swapping a hardwired unit is still a like-for-like replacement I can do. What I can't do is add an outlet where there isn't one — that's permit work.
Which disposal should I buy?
For most kitchens, 1/2 to 3/4 horsepower is plenty. Text me a photo of what's under there now and I'll tell you what fits the space and the existing plumbing.
