What's different about Ceiling Fan here
Older Village and Windansea homes have plaster ceilings, and removing a fixture that has been up for decades without cracking the surrounding plaster takes patience rather than force. I take the old unit down slowly for exactly that reason. As with the walls, the boxes in these houses are often original and often not fan-rated, and that's the thing I check first.
The Muirlands and Country Club homes bring vaulted and beamed ceilings, which need a fan-rated box with a sloped-ceiling adapter — and not every existing box has one. Beamed ceilings raise a separate question: the beam is usually the only solid mounting point, but it's rarely in the middle of the room, so where the fan can go and where you want it aren't always the same place. Worth a conversation before you buy a fan with a fixed downrod length. Coastal humidity also means a damp-rated fan is the sensible choice for any covered patio or porch installation.
Before you book, from La Jolla
Two things for La Jolla: photograph the ceiling from below, and tell me whether it's flat, sloped, or beamed. Sloped and beamed ceilings need a specific adapter, and not every existing box has one. If the room is beamed, also tell me where the beams run relative to where you want the fan — the beam is often the only viable mounting point and it's rarely in the middle of the room. For a covered patio, buy a damp-rated fan; the coastal air is hard on indoor-rated ones.
Getting to you
Streets in Bird Rock and above the Village are narrow and steep with limited parking, and a few of the coastal condo buildings require a certificate of insurance from anyone working on site before they'll let you up. Ask your building what they need and I'll tell you honestly whether I can meet it.

Is this electrical work?
It's a fixture replacement on wiring and a box that already exist — the same category as swapping a light fixture. What I don't do is add a new circuit, add a new box, or put a fan where there wasn't one. Those need a permit and a licensed electrician.
What if there's no fan up there now, just a light?
Then it depends entirely on the box. A light-only box won't safely carry a fan's weight and vibration, and swapping the box is a different job than this one. Send me a photo with the fixture's cover off and I'll tell you straight.
My old fan wobbles. Will the new one?
Not if it's hung right. Wobble is almost always the mounting or an unbalanced blade set, and balancing is part of every install I do.
How high can you go?
Standard and vaulted residential ceilings are fine. Two-story entryway heights need equipment I don't carry — send a photo and I'll be honest about it.

Ceiling fan installation in La Jolla
La Jolla ceiling fan work runs into the ceilings more than the fans. The Muirlands and Country Club homes have a lot of vaulted, beamed and sloped ceilings, and a standard downrod does not hang plumb from a slope — it needs an angled mount and sometimes a longer rod than people expect. In the older village bungalows the opposite applies: ceilings low enough that a hugger mount is the only safe choice. Ceiling height and shape decide what to buy, so send a photo looking up.
