The historic core has Victorians and Craftsman bungalows with original door casings, and drilling into one of those is not a decision to make casually. Where the trim is original I'll look for a mounting position that lands on a later addition or on the stucco beside the casing rather than through the woodwork, and if there isn't a good option I'll say so. Wiring in these homes also frequently predates any sensible doorbell load, so the transformer gets checked first.
Rancho San Pasqual, Hidden Meadows and the newer tracts are conventional and quick. Hidden Meadows raises the same issue as rural Poway, though: the properties are large, the front door can be a long way from where a visitor actually parks, and WiFi at the door is not a given. I check signal before mounting — if the doorbell sits at the edge of coverage, adding a mesh node in the front of the house is a far better fix than living with a camera that drops the clip you needed.

If you're in the historic district, send me a photo of the whole door surround rather than just the button. Original casings from the 1890s and 1900s aren't something to drill into casually, and there's usually a better mounting position beside the trim. Everywhere else, the existing button and your chime type is enough. If you're out in Hidden Meadows, check the WiFi signal at your front door before buying — coverage to the front of a large rural property is frequently the actual problem.

Escondido runs hot — regularly over 100°F inland in late summer. I book attic, ceiling, and exterior work here for mornings, and I'd rather move your slot than do a fan install badly at 3pm in August.

What if I don't have existing doorbell wiring?
Then the battery version is your answer, and I'll mount and set that up instead. Running new wiring to a door that never had a doorbell isn't work I take on — text me a photo of the door frame and I'll tell you which situation you're in.
Will my indoor chime still ring?
If you have a standard mechanical chime, usually yes, and I test it before leaving. Some models need a small adapter at the chime box — if yours does, I'll fit it.
Do you set up the app?
Yes. Pairing, WiFi, and motion zones are part of the job. I'd rather spend ten extra minutes getting the alerts right than have you turn them off next week because they fire every time a car passes.
