Garbage Disposal in La Mesa
La Mesa's older kitchens are where I most often open a cabinet and find something worth pointing out.

La Mesa specifics
What's different about Garbage Disposal here
In the Village and Fletcher Hills, 1920s to 1950s kitchens have had decades of piecemeal plumbing work. Galvanised remnants, mixed materials, traps at improvised angles, and occasionally a slow leak that's been quietly happening long enough to have softened the cabinet floor. A disposal replacement is a like-for-like swap on existing connections — but if I find that, you should know about it, so I'll show you and tell you honestly whether it's a plumber's job.
Cabinets in kitchens this age are also frequently smaller than modern ones, and original cast iron sinks are common. Cast iron is heavy and needs the mounting assembly seated properly rather than forced. Both are manageable; both are reasons a photo of what's currently under the sink is genuinely useful before you order a unit. Mount Helix homes range from 1950s to recent, so it varies more up there.
Before you book, from La Mesa
Clear the cabinet fully before I arrive, and while it's empty have a look at the cabinet floor. In La Mesa's older kitchens a slow leak that's been quietly going for a while is common enough that it's worth checking, and a soft cabinet base is something I'd want to know about before I'm lying in it. Photograph the trap, the dishwasher connection and whether the unit is plugged in or hardwired, and measure the clearance if you have an original cast iron sink.
Getting to you
Mount Helix roads are narrow, steep, and switchbacked, with very little room to park near a driveway. If your driveway is steep, say so — I'll plan for it rather than blocking your neighbour.

Questions
Garbage Disposal in La Mesa
Everything on the main garbage disposal page applies here too — same price, same inclusions.
Is this plumbing work?
It's a fixture replacement on the existing drain connection and existing outlet. No new plumbing runs, no repiping, no permit. If your under-sink plumbing turns out to need actual repair, I'll show you what I'm looking at and refer you to a plumber.
What if there's no outlet under my sink?
Then it's hardwired, and swapping a hardwired unit is still a like-for-like replacement I can do. What I can't do is add an outlet where there isn't one — that's permit work.
Which disposal should I buy?
For most kitchens, 1/2 to 3/4 horsepower is plenty. Text me a photo of what's under there now and I'll tell you what fits the space and the existing plumbing.
Do you take the old one away?
Yes, that's included.

Worth doing on the same trip
20–25 minutes each way. Adding a second job to one visit is the cheapest way to buy my time.
Garbage disposal replacement in La Mesa
La Mesa is a short enough drive that a disposal on its own is a perfectly sensible booking, often same week. The housing split matters here: post-war kitchens are straightforward swaps, while the older homes near the village may still have original drain arrangements that were never designed with a disposal in mind. A photo inside the cabinet settles which one you have, and it takes ten seconds to send. If the sink also drains slowly, mention it — that is often the trap rather than the disposal, and it is worth knowing before replacing anything.

Same flat price as everywhere else I work. If the photo shows something that changes it, you'll know before I drive out.
