Smart Lock in La Mesa
La Mesa has the oldest doors I regularly work on, and old doors are where smart locks either work beautifully or fail quietly.

La Mesa specifics
What's different about Smart Lock here
In the Village and Fletcher Hills, original 1920s to 1940s doors are common: solid wood, heavy, repainted many times, and frequently no longer square in the frame. The frame has usually moved too. This is the housing stock where checking the bolt throw genuinely determines whether the install succeeds — a lock fighting a misaligned strike will eat batteries and eventually strip its own gearing. Strike adjustment is included, and here it's the main event rather than a finishing touch.
Some of these doors also have layers of old paint built up on the edge, which changes the effective thickness enough to matter for a lock with a tight tolerance range. Occasionally the honest answer is that the door needs planing or the frame needs attention before any lock will behave, and I'll show you what I'm seeing rather than fitting something that will disappoint you. Mount Helix homes are a mix of eras, so it's genuinely case by case up there.
Before you book, from La Mesa
In La Mesa, the door is usually the story rather than the lock. Before you buy, close it and throw the bolt: if it binds, that has to be fixed first or the lock will fail slowly and you'll blame the wrong thing. Check the door edge for built-up paint too, since decades of repainting can push an old door outside a lock's supported thickness range. Photograph both sides of the deadbolt and the door edge, and I'll tell you what fits.
Getting to you
Mount Helix roads are narrow, steep, and switchbacked, with very little room to park near a driveway. If your driveway is steep, say so — I'll plan for it rather than blocking your neighbour.

Questions
Smart Lock in La Mesa
Everything on the main smart lock page applies here too — same price, same inclusions.
Will it fit my door?
Most standard doors, yes. Text me a photo of the current deadbolt from both sides and I'll confirm before you buy anything. Thick doors and unusual backsets are the two things that catch people out.
What if my door doesn't close properly now?
Then a smart lock will make it worse, not better. I can usually adjust the strike plate as part of the install. If the door itself has dropped or the frame has shifted, I'll tell you what's actually wrong.
Can you install one on a glass or sliding door?
No — those need a different kind of hardware. Standard deadbolt replacements on hinged doors are what I do here.

20–25 minutes each way. Adding a second job to one visit is the cheapest way to buy my time.
Smart lock installation in La Mesa
La Mesa smart lock calls often come from households where somebody needs to stop carrying keys — an older parent, a teenager, a family member with limited hand strength. That is a different specification from a security upgrade. Keypad reliability, a bolt that throws with no force required, and a door that closes without being pulled matter far more than app features. I set the door up so the lock works without anyone having to fight it, which is the whole point. If the door currently needs a shoulder to close it, say so. That is the part I will be fixing, and it is the part that makes the lock reliable.
