The 1980s and 1990s housing stock has modern under-sink plumbing, a dedicated outlet, and cabinets with room to work. Old unit off, new unit on, tested for leaks, old one hauled away. As straightforward as this job gets.
Worth raising, though: parts of east Poway and the more rural areas are on septic rather than sewer, and heavy disposal use genuinely isn't kind to a septic system — food solids go into the tank and add to how often it needs pumping. If you're on septic I'll mention it, and if you want to go ahead I'll fit whatever you've bought. Some people in that situation prefer a smaller unit used sparingly. It's your call entirely; I'd just rather you make it knowing than find out from a pumping bill.

Is this plumbing work?
It's a fixture replacement on the existing drain connection and existing outlet. No new plumbing runs, no repiping, no permit. If your under-sink plumbing turns out to need actual repair, I'll show you what I'm looking at and refer you to a plumber.
What if there's no outlet under my sink?
Then it's hardwired, and swapping a hardwired unit is still a like-for-like replacement I can do. What I can't do is add an outlet where there isn't one — that's permit work.
Which disposal should I buy?
For most kitchens, 1/2 to 3/4 horsepower is plenty. Text me a photo of what's under there now and I'll tell you what fits the space and the existing plumbing.
