Flat-pack furniture is fine when it's square and the cam locks are seated. It wobbles when it isn't. I build it properly, and anything tall gets strapped to the wall, because a tipping dresser is the one flat-pack failure that actually hurts someone.

What's included
- Parts checked against the manifest before starting, so a missing piece is found at the start and not at the end
- Assembled square, with fixings seated properly rather than run in until they strip
- Drawers and doors aligned and adjusted so they close evenly
- Tall or top-heavy pieces anchored to wall framing with the supplied strap
- Placed where you want it, with floor protection under it
- Packaging flattened and hauled away
What I'll need from you
- The furniture, in the room it's going in — boxes are heavy
- The instructions and hardware pack, unopened is fine
- Enough floor space to lay the parts out
- How long it takes
- About an hour for a small piece, two to three for a wardrobe or bunk bed.

The flat-pack boxes arrive the same week as everything else, and a bedroom's worth of them is an entire weekend that you would rather spend not doing that.
The part that actually matters is anchoring. A tall dresser or bookcase that is not strapped to the wall is a genuine hazard with a small child in the house, and in San Diego it is also an earthquake question — the same strap that stops a toddler pulling a unit over is what stops it walking across the room in a shake. Every tall piece gets anchored into framing with the supplied hardware as part of the job, not offered as an extra, and the packaging leaves with me.
